Reading
We’re excited to launch our Bookopoly Reading Challenge, a fun and engaging way to encourage reading throughout the school year!
What is Bookopoly?
Inspired by the classic board game, Bookopoly is a reading challenge where children move around a themed board by reading books from different genres. Each square on the board represents a genre (e.g. mystery, fantasy, non-fiction), and the number of spaces for each genre shows how many books your child should read in that category. How it works:
- Children choose books that match the genre on each square.
- After reading, they write the title and author in the box provided.
- Some genre suggestions are included to help get started, but children are welcome to choose their own books too!
- The challenge runs throughout the school year and should be completed and handed in by July.
We’ve talked with the children about how they can approach the Bookopoly challenge in a way that suits them best. They don’t need to read the books in the order of the board—they can choose any genre at any time. We’ve also encouraged them to continue reading books outside of the challenge too, as all reading is valuable! Most importantly, we’ve reminded them to choose books that are appropriate for their reading level, so they feel confident and enjoy the experience. All children also have a 'reading for pleasure' book and a levelled reading book, which they will continue to read alongside the challenge.
This is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore new types of books, develop their reading stamina and have fun along the way. We hope it will spark a love of reading that lasts well beyond the challenge!
